What will you do?

The role acts as the electrical expert across all project phases, providing leadership in electrical design, grid integration, procurement, compliance, budgeting, construction support, and operational optimization. The position requires extensive knowledge of the Belgian electricity market and transmission/distribution network operators, including Elia, Fluvius, ORES, and RESA, as well as compliance with Synergrid requirements and applicable European standards.

The Senior Electrical Engineer serves as a key interface between Development, Engineering, Procurement, Asset Operations, Contractors, Utilities, Consultants, and Regulatory Authorities.

Your electrical expertise allows you to support the Eneco colleagues with high-voltage handling and connectivity issues related to our new and operational wind farms.

The Senior Electrical Engineer supports Eneco's growth ambitions by delivering robust, innovative and compliant electrical solutions for utility-scale Wind and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. The role is responsible for managing technical risks, supporting technology selection, ensuring grid compliance and facilitating the successful integration of emerging technologies such as hybrid renewable energy systems, co-location projects and advanced grid-support functionalities.

You will be responsible for

  • Lead the electrical design of Wind Farm and BESS projects throughout their full lifecycle.
  • Develop, review and maintain Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), electrical philosophies, protection concepts, cable calculations, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical specifications.
  • Define and manage electrical interfaces between wind turbines, BESS systems, substations, grid connection assets, SCADA systems and Balance of Plant (BoP) contractors.
  • Act as technical lead for all grid connection activities and ensure compliance with Synergrid requirements, Belgian Grid Codes and utility requirements (F.ex Elia, Fluvius, ORES and RESA).
  • Support project development teams with technical due diligence, grid connection strategies, feasibility studies and permit-related electrical matters.
  • Prepare technical tender packages, Employer’s Requirements and technical specifications for electrical equipment and infrastructure.
  • Lead the technical evaluation of supplier proposals, identify technical deviations and risks, participate in supplier clarification meetings and provide recommendations for supplier selection.
  • Develop CAPEX and OPEX estimates for electrical scopes and contribute to project budgeting, value engineering and cost optimization activities.
  • Review engineering deliverables from consultants, OEMs and EPC contractors to ensure technical quality and contractual compliance.
  • Provide technical support during procurement, manufacturing, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), commissioning and operational handover.
  • Stay informed on industry developments and evaluate emerging technologies, including co-location projects, hybrid renewable energy systems, grid-forming converters, advanced BESS applications and future flexibility solutions.
  • Act as the company's internal expert for complex electrical engineering matters and provide technical guidance to project teams and stakeholders.

What we expect from you

  •  Master’s degree in engineering (electrical, electromechanics) or equivalent
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in HV/MV engineering
  • Experience with utility-scale renewable energy projects such as wind farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS), substations and grid connection infrastructure is an advantage
  • BA5 and/or GWO certificate (preferred)
  • Expert knowledge of HV and MV systems
  • Preferably experience in technical procurement and budgeting
  • Strong understanding of IEC standards, Synergrid and grid code requirements
  • Experience with OT/IT systems, industrial automation, networks, and cybersecurity
  • Native Flemish or French speaker, preferably trilingual with active knowledge of   English
  • Driver’s license B
